Welcome to India!

We'll confirm the transfer as you prefer. I believe it will be with a small local agency, yes?

Transfer to the hotel (approx. 35 to 45 min), located in a central area with interesting tour and cultural activities. Upon arrival in India, we'll be adjusting to the time zone and resting from the hours of flying. Get as much rest as possible. Perhaps waking up a little before breakfast ends? We'll check the schedule updated on previous days.

We will start the day further south of the city, where we will visit the beautiful Lotus TempleBuilt in the shape of its name, it belongs to the Bahá'í religion, founded in the 19th century in ancient Persia. Upon visiting, you'll be invited to remain silent for a moment. This is an interesting opportunity and experience in the midst of this large, bustling city. After visiting the temple, which is sometimes open, further along the exit (before turning right to the street gate), there are stairs leading to an exhibition on the history and work of this religion. It's interesting to take a look and experience brief expositions on its thoughts.

Second of the six major Mughal emperors, Humayun (1508-1556), his mausoleum was built in Delhi. It was the first in India to feature garden-style architecture and use red sandstone on this scale. Thus, it is a predecessor and is close in beauty to the Taj Mahal. Some consider this monument even more beautiful. It is worth a visit on the way back to the more central area of Delhi.

A very interesting visit in Delhi is the National museumIt's possible to spend many hours or days appreciating each hall and exhibit on the history, arts, and people of India. A good way to take advantage of this opportunity is to visit a main hall and the relics of Buddha. Your backpack should be stored in a storage area before entering the museum building (small women's handbags or clutches are usually allowed), and then, just before climbing the entrance stairs, be sure to take a look to your left at one of, if not the, first charter of human rights, carved in stone, according to the laws of the great Indian emperor of the 3500rd century BC, Ashoka. Just after your entrance, one of the first halls is the one on Mohenjodaro and Harappa, the cradle of this Indian culture, between 1500 and XNUMX BC. Right at the entrance to this hall, there's an interesting comparison of the eras of humanity's ancient civilizations. Next, we have objects from this period, the main ones being: the seal with what must have been Shiva (possibly in the form of Pashupati), the sculpture of the priest's head, and the dancing girl. From there, we walked (please be mindful of your time), without stopping too much, aiming to make the most of our day at the museum, through the other halls. Now, in a new building on the way out of the museum, we have relics of the Buddha. A very special place to visit and, if you wish, to sit for a few moments. It is common to find practitioners of this Nepalese/Indian master's method (Sakya), sitting in meditation around his relics.

Another special visit for our day is the last house where Gandhi lived, known as Birla House or Gandhi SmritiWe'll learn a little about this important part of this nation's history, including the life and final moments of this great leader, an example of the practice of Ahimsa (non-violence) and the culture of peace that continues throughout the world today. The most important parts of the museum today are at the beginning of the tour. So, a suggestion: head to the back of the house where Gandhi was assassinated on the way to the place where he said his daily prayers. Return and take a look at a presentation about Gandhi's life, with photos of his birthplace, until he became the Gandhi we know. Then enter the house through Gandhi's room, where his belongings are displayed. In every place Gandhi lived, he had a simple room with belongings like these. These are the most important parts of the tour. I suggest continuing in a much more concise manner through this same floor and the floor above. There are volunteers available to present the museum, but it usually takes a long time. If you want their support, ask them to present just two or three sections of the museum, or do a 2-minute summary (which will probably end up being longer). Suggestion: spend a maximum of 3 to 5 minutes on these parts of the museum (after Gandhi's room) so that you can use your day for other visits in the city.

Next to Jantar Mantar, a visit to the Sikh temple, a 16th-century religion from the Punjab region of India, is certainly a good option. In the beautiful Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, we will hear their chants (see the translation on the monitors inside the temple), we will observe how they say their prayers in the temple and around the sacred tank. We will also be able to visit the kitchen where volunteers provide meals for thousands of people daily, regardless of social class and religion.

We'll see how hungry you are for a great suggestion for your first meal in Delhi!

We think:

  • Without guide
  • With car and driver (with a small local agency)

We will check the city's cultural agenda for the days in Delhi, as a possibility of a special activity, where great artists from the country perform.

After resting, we had breakfast and then started our day in the Kathmandu Valley!

We will begin our visits with a short walk in the region of the second largest stupa in the valley, Swayambunath (translation: self-arising). Legend has it that the hill where the stupa stands arose from the spot where the bodhisattva Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom, picked a lotus flower after emptying the lake in what is now the Kathmandu Valley. Weather permitting, we will have a view of the entire city. We will make our koras around the stupa and visit its small monasteries.

From Swayambu we will continue to Durbar Square, (Palace Square) in Kathmandu where a small living goddess, the Kumari, lives. The durbar squares of the Kathmandu Valley were built by kings who were heirs of the Malla dynasty, from the 12th to the 18th centuries, which, in this case, were fortunate enough to compete in architectural beauty. There are numerous temples of various Hindu gods around the palace. We will then walk to the travellers' quarter in Kathmandu, Thamel. As you are staying in Thamel, it will be interesting to take this walk to see the good mess along the way, the market and local temples, as well as to understand where Thamel is in relation to Swayambu, KTM Durbar Square and Boudha.

See how hungry you are, whether it's worth having lunch in Thamel or taking the opportunity to eat in Boudhnath, overlooking the very sacred stupa. On this first visit to Boudha, it's more about getting to know the area and enjoying it a bit. You can stay in the kora area (around the stupa), or, if you have time, take advantage and visit the main monasteries: Shechen (we can visit the room of the former Dilgo K Rinpoche depending on the time of day), Shedrub Ling (of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche), Sakya monastery in the kora (of Trichen Rinpoche), and, if you have time, on the main avenue, Dudjom Rinpoche's monastery (which you can visit on your return from the Annapurnas at a more leisurely pace). Tibetans will be making their koras, catching up, accumulating merit, prostrating, and lighting lamps at the beginning and end of the day, especially.

After a good reconnaissance of the valley, I return to Thamel.

If you're returning to Boudha in the next few days, keep the entrance ticket your guide will buy for you so you can enter for the next week without paying again. If the guide asks you to show it at the office, ask him to take a photo. If you need anything, ask him to speak to Guilherme. When you return from the Annapurnas, just buy another one, for approximately $3 to $5, and keep it for the next few days.

Today we will go to a village in a quieter area approximately 40 minutes south of the Kathmandu Valley, PharphingWe'll visit two important caves of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Here, this great master and father of Buddhism in Tibet attained the third level of vidyadhara, called the great seal. As the Buddha himself explained, we'll visit places where great masters lived and meditated. We'll be able to hang Tibetan flags on a hill above Asura, offering a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding mountains. On the rock next to one of the caves we'll visit, we'll see a mark Guru Rinpoche made with his hand.

We will put together a page with more details about Pharphing including a special small statue of Tara, who self-emerged (swayambu) from a stone.

We'll take advantage of our car and head to another side of the Kathmandu Valley for about an hour, which we can use to talk with our guide about Nepalese culture(s), different ethnicities, religions, and history. We'll then head to another of the valley's three main ancient cities, Bhaktapur (bhakt: devotion and pur: Hindu city). Along with Patan and Kathmandu, they were once capitals of the Malla Empire, competing in architectural beauty with their stunning palace squares. Bhaktapur is a listed city, with limited traffic flow. Walking through its narrow streets is like experiencing a glimpse of daily life in medieval Nepal.

We'll talk to the guide about starting the walk in the back of Bhaktapur, visiting a small, very special, rarely visited Tara temple, and then continuing through the city streets to its main square. There are many good restaurant options in Bhaktapur. In Pharphing, the dining options are simpler. There's a simple restaurant for chow mein, something simple if you're feeling fancy. It might be worth bringing some snacks and dried fruit for later in Bhaktapur. See what works best on the day.

A more peaceful day, after having visited regions a little further away from the valley yesterday, we will head to the pleasant Durbar Square Patan, very famous for its artists and beautiful temples. There we will visit a small, very well-made and very educational museum of Hindu and Buddhist art. Nearby, we will visit the small and beautiful Golden Temple, used to this day by Nepalese Buddhists from the same clan as Buddha Sakyamuni himself. Patan is a good option for our lunch, it is a good place to buy Buddhist statues (as in Boudha too), of excellent quality, as well as to walk through these medieval streets and their temples.

We will then take a walk through the temple complex of Pashupatinath, which is located around the Bagmati River, sacred to Hindus. In addition to the main temple, dedicated to the most peaceful manifestation of Shiva, Pashupati, there are dozens of smaller temples also dedicated to the Hindu yogi god of destruction and reconstruction. It is also the place where Nepalese who are able to do so will be cremated to ensure a good passage or liberation (moksha).

A peaceful end to the day in Boudha or Thamel to pack your bags and backpacks, to head calmly to the Annapurnas tomorrow morning!

If you want to pack a suitcase at the beginning of the day and leave it in Boudha at the end of the day, at the hotel you'll be staying at on your way back, that's a possibility. You can keep the suitcase with you in the car all day. You could pack this suitcase at the end of the day and leave it at the hotel in Thamel. Then, on your way back from Pokhara, when you have some free time, you can pop into Thamel and pick up that suitcase too.

We can contemplate these important places, read a book, write, walk, take photos, take care of the souvenirs we want to take home for ourselves and for friends and family. At the end of the day we will meet for our farewell dinner.

Nota

We intentionally made some visits different from what we normally do, as well as spending one or two days shorter in Nepal. We certainly saw the most important points of Kathmandu, which were also quite special. Even so, if you can and are interested, we recommend staying for one, two or three more days in Kathmandu, during which you can: (1) visit Durbar Square in a neighboring city called Bhaktapur, (2) have a little more free time in Kathmandu, as well as, for those interested, (3) visit other areas of the valley, whether those of greatest interest to Buddhist practitioners, such as Pharphing and Namo Buddha, or those who want to stay in the mountains (options: Namo Buddha, Nagarkot, Dhulikhel), and so on. There are many possibilities in these regions (see here). The point is to see if it is the best time or in a next coming!

This is a day that travellers always request. After visiting all the regions of our trip together, already being familiar with Kathmandu, a day to enjoy our Tibetan neighborhood, take a walk around the city, go somewhere we haven't been yet, return with more time to one or more places that We visited, having already met and now being able to enjoy a coffee, review a museum, buy a few things, these are possibilities that are always very welcome by our friends, fellow travellers. Count on our support, of course, and enjoy your day in Nepal!

We will see how the group wants to best enjoy the day. We have some suggestions like a walk around the valley. We will listen to how each Traveller prefers to enjoy the day so we can think about how it will be better for the group, to enjoy the whole day together or if some Travellers prefer to have our support for more independent activities.

After all the preparations have been well taken care of over the last few months, it's time to go to the airport for the flights to Nepal!

We have our hotel available until approx. noon in the morning. So, you can choose to fly back home that night, early morning or tomorrow. It's always quite comfortable to go to the airport while we still have our room available to rest, pack our bags and take a shower.

We hope you enjoyed your travel days. May you have great flights back home and come back soon!

Going to the airport could have been the night before, as explained above, this morning or today, depending on your preference. Very good flights! See you soon!

Regarding times and days, flights normally leave Guarulhos SP (GRU) early in the morning, around 1 or 2am that night. Therefore, anyone traveling to São Paulo from other states must make their domestic flight the day before. And anyone going to GRU by car must go to the airport the night before. Guilherme will certainly contact you before you go to the airport and will be available when you arrive at the airport to see if you need any help, making sure you are arriving with complete peace of mind. Have a great flight and see you soon!

If your flight is today, have a great flight!
