Connection in Doha

Very good airport and support

Doha airport is very good and very well prepared to support travellers from all over the world who pass through there.

Even without speaking English, the best thing to do is

Even if we don't speak English or don't understand their accent, it's very easy to make the connection. Let me explain:

  • Have your cboarding gate with easy access to use it whenever you need it, with a certain frequency;
  • You will find several airport and Qatar airline employees walking or even standing still, exactly to watch all the travellers. It is difficult not to see an airport employee from somewhere in the airport. We will always find one from wherever we are or at most walking a few more meters;
  • Show your boarding pass of the next flight (from Doha to Delhi, to Kathmandu or to Brazil) and ask:
  • Where to go please? Where to go, please? You can show this sentence here on your cell phone (saving the page offline as explained in this link here)
  • Each employee will point a little further ahead and so on, asking the next employees. It will surely be very peaceful.

Follow Transfers signs

  • As soon as you step off the plane, you will find staff ready to assist you and signage;
  • Always follow the Transfers signs

Wifi at the airport

  • If you have plenty of time until your next flight and want to stop along the way to connect at Airport Wifi, great. If you prefer to connect later, here is how it was done the last time we were in Doha. These types of things, technology, websites, apps, change a lot. But they should remain similar:
  • With your cell phone's wifi, enter the airport network. Last time I called #HIAQatar (HIA is the name of the airport). If it has changed, ask an airport or Qatar employee. They may actually be able to help you connect. In English you can ask (by saying or showing this phrase): May you help me to connect to the airport wifi please?
  • A login window will appear.
  • Click connect using Qatar Airways
  • Please click  Booking Reference
  • Then put the your reservation code, called PNR, which is 6 letters
  • Your last name: it will probably be your surname as it appears in the passage or the last of your surnames
  • Then click connect to wifi: Connect to Wi-Fi
  • Agree to the terms of use by clicking on I agree
  • Ready. Your wifi will say you are connected to the #HIAQatar network. If you need help, airport and Qatar staff will be happy to help.

Security check

  • After walking a little you will arrive at a room where on one side you will see the security check: with x-ray machines, etc. On the other side we see several monitors and transfer assistance desks;
  • Go through the security check. You will see signs indicating the direction to all boarding gates: All Gates
  • Note in the photo below, taken between the security check and the assistance desks, that a girl in a Qatar uniform and airport employees in yellow vests are assisting travellers as we find throughout the airport;
  • If you need any assistance from the transfer desk, how to print a new boarding pass (we don't normally need to), the counters are in front of the security check as we can see in the image below;

Monitors with boarding gate number

  • After you pass the security check, you will see monitors indicating the gate number of your flight;
  • If you have a few hours until your flight, it may not be available on the monitors yet. That's okay. Go ahead and check the monitors after a while to see if it's already available. There are many monitors spread throughout the airport. You can ask at the information desks, as they usually already know the gate number for your flight. Just ask or show them this question on your cell phone: May you please check the gate number of my flight? And show them your boarding pass so they can see your flight.
  • Still, further on Keep checking the monitors again as gates may change as boarding time approaches (normally between 1h and 40min before the flight time if it is on time);

Follow All Gates signage

  • Next to the monitors you will see signs saying All Gates which will take you to the airport's main hall;

Signage for Gates, Lounges and Hotel Areas

In the main hall of the airport, as in the other areas of the airport (there is even a small forest inside the airport), you will see signs for:

  • lounges: they are normally paid for 4 hours, there is more than one type of lounge, with different prices and services, including in some even a shower (like in a good hotel);
  • Spa: I believe that it is here in the spa that there is a pool and a pleasant environment to relax (if one day I needed to use a lounge again to relax and work, I would consider taking a bathing suit and doing the same, instead of the lounge, in the pool area);
  • Boarding gate areas: each area with a certain number of boarding gates has a letter. We will find these letters in yellow on the signage itself (like the lounges in the first image below), as well as in large letters that are easy to see even from a distance, as we can see in both photos below, especially the second one;
  • When you arrive at your boarding gate area (letter), you will see your boarding gate number as well, for example: C20
  • Now it's time to wait and enjoy your next flight! If you can, send Guilherme a message to let him know that everything is fine. It's always good to hear from you during your travels. If we can be of any help, please let us know. Have a great flight!

Wifi in flight

Some flights do not always have Wi-Fi for part of the journey. This is especially true on larger planes and on longer flights. Websites and apps change a lot. The last time we used Qatar, the login process worked as follows. We imagine it will be the same or similar. We hope this helps:

  • Using your cell phone's Wi-Fi, choose the network OryxComms

There are two possibilities:

  • The first is free for 1h
  • The second is for the flight all for 10 usd (except sections without internet connection)
  • Click in Log in
  • Click in Registered email address: registered email address: the same one that has been receiving information from Qatar about your ticket
  • Put your Email Right below
  • So your last name: probably in the same way as in the passage
  • Click on the square to accept the terms of Qatar
  • Click in Continue
  • Click in Start Surfing
  • Then open one navigator to start using the internet
  • The OryxComms antenna on your wifi will now show as connected
  • When this message appears, it means the flight is passing through an area without an internet connection.

Very good flight!
