The book is intended to be a kind of manual on how true beauty reveals itself in those who are able to keep their hearts pure and devoted. In this collection of essays Shundo Aoyama Rôshi, a Zen Buddhist teacher, writes simply but with depth, opening the portal of compassion and wisdom and revealing personal experiences on her journey towards enlightenment. It combines inter-religious experiences with its vast knowledge of Buddhist sacred texts and a life dedicated to meditative practices, making Zen philosophy accessible to everyone.

Shundo Aoyama Rôshi became a nun at the age of 15 and joined the Aichi Senmon Nisodo (Specialized Aichi Buddhist Nuns Monastery) in Nagoya. He attended Komazawa University in Tokyo, having graduated with merit in Buddhist Studies. She has a postgraduate degree in Buddhist Studies at the same University and at the Soto Zen Buddhist Research and Dissemination Institute. She is responsible for the Muryo Temple in Nagano and Counselor at Sojiji Headquarters Monastery. Since 1984 he has been visiting Zen Buddhist practice centers in North America, guiding Zazen groups.
