Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is one of the most respected of the new generation of masters in the Tibetan meditation tradition, whose teachings have inspired people of all faiths around the world. Your first book, the joy of living, was on the best sellers list of New York Times, and was acclaimed byBuddhadharma Magazine as accessible, thought-provoking, and very enlightening, and praised by Richard Gere, Lou Reed, and Julian Schnabel for their clarity, wisdom, and original insight into the relationship between science and Buddhism.

Your new book, joyful wisdom, addresses the current and timeless issue of anxiety present in our daily lives. From a Buddhist perspective spanning more than 2 years, Yongey Mingyur writes, “every chapter in human history could be described as an 'age of anxiety', for the anxiety we feel today has been part of the human condition for centuries. So what to do? Run away or give up? Both alternatives inevitably bring us more complications and problems. “Buddhism,” he says, “offers a third option. We can look directly at the disturbing emotions, or any of the difficulties we face, and see them as springboards to freedom. Instead of rejecting or surrendering to them, we can absorb them, using them to, through them, reach the authentic and lasting experience of wisdom, confidence, clarity and joy that are inherent to us.

Divided into three parts, like a traditional Buddhist text, joyful wisdomidentifies the sources of our discomfort, describes meditation methods that enable us to turn our experiences into deeper insights, and shows how to apply them when dealing with the emotional and physical problems we normally face. The result is a work that is both profound, fun, enlightening, and that the author's unique style makes irresistible.
