Passport

Validity

  • Very important: your passport must have validity for more than 6 months after the last day of travel.
  • For issuing a new passport: let's please check with the authorities in your country; www.pf.gov.br/servicos-pf/passaporte/requerer-passaporte. It is important to consider that in some cities the appointment may take a while.

Send photo or scan

  • We will use it for the visa forms, purchases of domestic flight, train tickets and bookings of the hotels;
  • Can be a cell phone photo can be taken if quite clear for India, Nepal and Tibet. To Bhutan needs to be a scan same;
  • We need only the page with our photo and our data (page below) for India, Nepal and Tibet. To Bhutan we need the page with the barcode and our signature also;

Be careful not to get like this:

    1. Be careful that the lamp or natural light does not create reflection and therefore it is not possible to read some information on the page
    2. Be careful watermarks of the page in the same way do not reflect and therefore it is also not possible to read any information
    3. It's okay to show a little of our finger to hold the page, just be careful with our finger not covering some information
    4. Be careful that the photo does not cut some corner of the page

So that it stays that way:

    1. Be able to read easily all information of the page
    2. Including passport number at the top right corner
    3. And the full lines in the lower part
    4. With all corners of the page appearing in the photo

Name and surname

  • Very important: it is not always that in our passport the surname (on the first line of the page with our data) is considered only our last surname or the one we are used to. Sometimes it is only the last name and sometimes it is more than one including some middle names. It is very important to send your data, first and last name, on your application form. exactly how in the passport to avoid serious problems such as non-boarding, cancellation of reservations and then possible non-availability of a seat on domestic and international flights.
  • For the same reasons, the same care applies when issuing a new passport: Your reservations need to be made from the beginning with your new passport name as they cannot be changed later. Check with the Federal Police that your name and surname will not change on the new passport. If your name has changed for any reason, such as marriage or separation, extra care with these procedures is very necessary. In this case it is important that you let us know, please.

Yellow fever vaccine certificate

  • In your passport we must staple your international voucher of yellow fever vaccine (taken more than 10 days before the start of the trip and valid), on the last page and no longer on the back cover where in new passports there is a chip that cannot be damaged with the staple.
  • More information on the page Vaccines (for the exclusive use of Chörten Travellers): here

Entrance to airports and train travel

It's a good thing that we create the habit of: whenever we leave the hotel for the airport or travel by train, we always have our passport in the same safe and easily accessible place. This is to facilitate entry to the airport (when we are getting out of our transfer vehicle, taking care of our bags, there can be a queue, saying goodbye to the local representative and thinking about the next steps of the trip). Good habits of experienced travellers can greatly facilitate and help our tranquility and the quality of our travel experiences.

File for visas

It is common to receive photo files or scans of passports that:

  • They are already perfect for what we need at this moment: confirm names and other information for correct purchases of domestic flights and hotel reservations;
  • And they have good chances of working for visas;

However, immigration authorities in the countries for which we will apply for our visas may not accept them due to certain factors, such as:

  • Image sharpness: sometimes the letters are a little out of focus, sometimes there is glare or the light is a little blown out in the file;
  • A passport page sometimes it is a little bent or has the corners cut off in the file image;
  • Immigration from India often accepts files in which the passport photo is not very clear. But sometimes they refuse, asking us to send a clearer photo, and sometimes they simply refuse the visa. In this case, we need to fill out and pay for a new visa application again. With these previous experiences in mind, feel free to proceed with the current file or, if you prefer, proceed with a file with a clearer photo. Please let us know which one you prefer.
  • Immigration from Bhutan and Tibet are more demanding, it is important that the files are very clear, please;
  • Above, in 'Sending photo or scan' (link here) we explain the details that ensure that immigration accepted our passport file.
