Walk
Today we will fly to the state of Himachal Pradesh. Where the Himalayas begin in this region of India. Arriving in McLeodganj, the highest region of Dharamsala, we will check in and then have lunch at some of the restaurants we really like in the area.
At the end of the day we will visit the monastery From His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and then we will perform a kora (circumambulation) along a very pleasant path around his residence.
For those beginning their pilgrimage with the "In the Footsteps of the Buddha" program in Dharamsala:
Tushita
Our plan for today is a walk to the center of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, called TushitaLama Zopa is a great master of Tibetan Buddhism, born in the Everest region. His centers and monasteries around the world offer excellent in-person and online courses. In addition to the always incredible libraries (we'll check the schedule), in the mornings we can often participate in an instructed meditation (we'll confirm the time the day before). This is also a way to experience the atmosphere of a retreat center in a slightly higher area of Dharamsala.
Each day we adjust our activities and visits according to the group's energy level, practices we will do together, walks, all the possibilities we have in the Dharamsala region. Including the much-requested free time, since it's so easy to do many things on foot, enjoy the cafes, bookstores, the SS temple, and so on.
Tibetan Library
Nechung Monastery
Today we will take a walk to the Tibetan LibrarySS project for the preservation of Tibetan books and translations. The library has philosophy classes, we'll see if we can participate, and also a museum.
Next to the library we will visit the monastery of Nechung, oracle of Tibet.
We'll return to Mcleodganj for our lunch.
Norbulingka
We will visit, in the lower part of Dharamsala, where the city proper is located, a Tibetan art schoolWe will visit, with the support of one of the school's own guides, the carpentry, weaving, and, most importantly, the fabric painting workshop called thangkha. We will also see the school's temple, which is very beautiful.
In a very pleasant garden, there is a restaurant for a delicious lunch and also a shop with clothes, household items and practice equipment made by the school itself, with prices a little higher than those found on the street, but of much higher quality.
In the afternoon we returned to our already well-known McLeodganj for our practices, walks, and to enjoy the region.
Free day
Free day For some activity that we can plan closer to the trip. In case part of the group wants to do a longer hike on a mountain above McLeodganj. Let's enjoy our last moments in Dharamsala, which we will surely miss (and soon return!).
Opened
We have a few options for those days, which we will confirm closer to the trip.
