What we always discuss with our fellow travellers, and what always proves true, is this: What we organize for our trips is carefully thought out and planned so that we can enjoy our days in India in the best and most meaningful way possible. Even so, to a large extent, it's the unplanned aspects that will create many of our special memories. Among the visits, there are always temples where we can stop and observe how they are part of the locals' daily lives. People we meet on the street. Unique images of India that are so important to us and that we also enjoy. Experiences that tend to remain in a very special place in our memories. Lessons that we assimilate over the years.
For those who are interested, we can visit an old shop selling traditional sweets. There will be no shortage of things to see and enjoy in Old Jaipur.
Fatehpur Sikri,
Today we will travel by car to Agra. On the way, closer to Agra, we will visit the city. Fatehpur Sikri, This city, built by the great Mughal emperor Akbar, was a scholar of the philosophy of the great religious traditions, and in opposition to religious intolerance, he created a movement based on a code of ethics called Dīn-i Ilāhī. Akbar was the first Mughal emperor not to impose higher taxes on those who were not of his religion and had a Hindu general commanding his army. In addition to visiting his interesting city, which he used for a very short period, we will also visit the emperor's Jama Masjid (Friday mosque) and the mausoleum of the Sufi saint Salim Chishti.
We will have already had a very good lunch along the way and then we will continue on to Agra.
Taj Mahal
Agra Fort
Sunset
Today is the day we will visit the Taj MahalBuilt by Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, in the 17th century, thousands of workers and architects from various regions of the world spent 20 years using India's famous white marble and precious stones in this project. There are countless stories about the Taj Mahal that we will hear from our local guide, including stories connected to our afternoon tour and the possibility of an extra activity at sunset.
We will also visit the Agra FortThis Red Fort of Agra, more beautiful and with more history than the one in Delhi, was first used by Babur, the first Mughal emperor, in the 16th century, and built in its current form by Akbar. We will visit its gardens, public and private audience halls, mosque, and living quarters, including the place where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son and the one Akbar built for his son, with symbols of all the major religious and philosophical traditions of the time.

Time to head to Delhi, the capital of India, for a very nice dinner!
Free afternoon
Today we will head towards the Himalayas, where the Ganges is quite clean and the first mountains of the mountain range begin. A region very conducive to our practices and contemplation. A relatively small city, we will quickly become familiar with it, thoroughly enjoying the whole environment, numerous temples, ashrams, pujas, and walks alongside the Ganges. In the afternoon we will walk along the jhulas (suspension bridges) among pilgrims from all over India, sannyasins, who travel to the foothills of the Himalayas, often for months on foot, where we can contemplate the purifying power of the powerful goddess, Maha Ganga.
Vasistha Guha
Lakshman Jhula
Ram Jhula
Aarti Ceremony
Since we all feel very comfortable in Rishikesh, everyone will be free to choose the best way to spend their time and activities. As a suggestion and possibility for an extra excursion, a little further on from Rishikesh, we could visit the cave of a Vedic sage, one of the seven great Rishis of India, called Vashistha. It's always a very special experience to pay homage to great yogis, sitting in the same place where he lived and meditated during the winters. We could also walk along the beach next to it, on the banks of the Ganges. Very pleasant places for meditation practices, reading texts and good conversations.
As a suggestion, we could return to the jhula area for lunch and stroll through the narrow streets, visiting its small temples, cafes, and bookstores.
Another possibility for an extra activity is a special rafting trip on the (very clean in this region) waters of the Ganges, which we can combine with a visit to Vashistha Guha. This is a way to travel along the Ganges, between mountains that always make us contemplate how many yogis have passed through there over the last many millennia and how many live there today.
At the end of the day, it's always possible to participate in one of the Aarti ceremonies.
Kunjapuri temple
Ram Jhula
Swami Dayananda Ashram
Similarly, since everyone is surely quite comfortable in the Rishikesh region, as an extra excursion option, we could ascend the Himalayas for approximately 40 minutes to a temple atop a mountain, at an altitude of 1676m. The Kunjapuri temple is dedicated to the goddess Durga and is one of the 13 power sites (Shakti Peethas) in this region. If the weather is clear, we will have a beautiful view with the snow-capped mountains in the background. It is worth remembering that the snow line here in the Himalayas is at an altitude of 5500m.
Back in Rishikesh, we can visit another important center for Vedanta studies, the ashram of Swami Dayananda. Those who are interested can walk back to Ram Jhula along the banks of the Ganges, or participate in one of the pujas at the ashram temple at the end of the day, overlooking the Ganges.
Free day
As always requested, here's another day to enjoy Rishikesh. Have a great day, enjoy the chai, walks, practices, reading, and beautiful photos of the region!
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Today we return to Delhi. A city we really enjoyed with many possibilities for sightseeing, good food, parks, contact with history and the diverse cultures of India. Near our hotel, we will visit the Sikh temple, a religion from the 16th century, and the Punjab region in India, the beautiful Gurudwara Bangla SahibWe will hear their chants, observe how they pray in the temple and around the sacred pool (amrit). We will also be able to visit the kitchen where volunteers provide meals for thousands of people daily, regardless of social class or religion.
We're sure to have a good meal in Delhi!
We will check the city's cultural agenda for a possible special event featuring performances by major national artists.
Old Delhi.
Free afternoon
Transfer
We will start our day with what is actually one of the many Delhis that existed in different eras and empires in a succession of neighboring cities. The last and eighth Delhi is where we are staying, built by the English, called New Delhi. The seventh was built by Shah Jahan, one of the great Mughal emperors, the same one who built the Taj Mahal, at the time known as Shajahanabad. Today we call it Old Delhi. or Old Delhi. We will visit the Emperor's Grand Mosque, the Jama Masjid.
Next, we will stroll through the narrow streets of its old bazaar, including a visit to a very old Jain temple with beautiful paintings. We will then proceed to the front of the Red Fort, where the important Lahori Gate is located. It was there that important events in Indian history took place, such as the independence of this country, now the largest democracy in the world, where ancient values and customs coexist with extremely modern knowledge and technology. We will have already visited the Agra Fort, which is much more historic, more beautiful, and better preserved.
Free afternoon to enjoy as they prefer. With souvenir shopping, museums like the Gandhi Museum and the National Museum of Delhi. Parks.
