Shamatha

Shamatha

Shamatha (Skt. ?amatha ; Tib. ? , shyiné , Wyl. Zhi gnas ) or 'calm calm' is also translated as 'peacefully remaining' or 'meditation of tranquility'. Shama means "peace", it means "to dwell" or "stability". Shyi also means “peace”, right is “respect”. There are two central meditation practices on the Buddhist path: staying calm and seeing clear. The method of staying calm is to work with the conceptual mind. When you are able to go beyond this and reach the realm of rigpa wisdom, it is called clear vision or vipashyana (Sanskrit).
