The Snow Cave: Tenzin Palmo's Journey Towards Enlightenment

The Snow Cave: Tenzin Palmo's Journey Towards Enlightenment

The story of an Englishwoman, the daughter of a fishmonger in London's East End, who became a Buddhist legend and advocate of women's right to spiritual enlightenment.

In 1976, Diane Perry, then known by her Tibetan name Tenzin Palmo, retreated to a remote cave in the Himalayas, four thousand meters high, cut off from the world by mountains and snow. There he devoted himself to twelve years of intense Buddhist meditation. He faced unimaginable cold, wild animals, near starvation and avalanches; he grew his own food and slept in a traditional three-foot square wooden meditation box—never lying down. Her goal was to achieve enlightenment as a woman.
