The Six Perfections - How to Achieve Supreme Well-Being

The Six Perfections - How to Achieve Supreme Well-Being

In Tibetan Buddhism, Bodhisattvas are those in whom the spirit of enlightenment (bodhichitta) – the desire to attain full enlightenment, not for their own benefit, but in order to alleviate the suffering of living beings and bring them to the highest level of well-being and happiness – is constantly present. The secret to treading this path lies in practicing the so-called six perfections (paramitas): generosity, ethical discipline, patience, enthusiastic effort, concentration, and wisdom. These six practices are called perfections because they are the key to the emergence of complete enlightenment and allow us to reach a perfected state in which we are free from disturbing emotions and all obstacles to attaining knowledge.
